What is art?
Journal Entry: Tue Sep 11, 2007, 2:41 PM
I've been pondering this question quite a bit, recently.
At this point in time, I consider myself a mailler or chain artisan, or a budding/developing one at least. Most of what I've created up to this point, however, can probably be summed up as simply weave samples. Those keychains I have up, in particular, are nothing more than a small segment/patch of particular chain weave slapped on a stainless steel split ring. Art? I'm seriously beginning to feel that probably not.
The boot bands and stretch bracelets are maybe a bit closer, but again, they are just a small portion of a particular weave that has been looped around and connected to itself. Different colors and materials, but art? I don' t know.
The Euro Celt Bracerlet I think is my most creative work to date, using 3 different ring types and two different weaves, but it still is fairly simple work.
So, what is art? Where does the mundane transcend to the sublime? Is this not a question that should be asked, a question where the answer should be felt rather than heard(well, read, in this case)?
Perplexed and pondering.
